Horchateria Rio Luna is a coffee shop fusing traditional Mexican flavors with American treats and desserts. Located in Paramount CA, HRL is a sweet place for the mouth as well as the eyes! They have the coolest little Mexican Heritage items for sale! From Frida hand painted pillows, Concha keychains, to pins with classic Mexican iconic imagery. My husband and I decided to spilt one of their iconic Concha Ice Cream Sandwiches, and Mini Churros. And OMG! It was seriously delicious! Not just filled with vanilla ice cream, get real! But authentic Horchata creamy ice cream! With walnuts for the perfect about of crunch and a Cajeta drizzle that ties everything together. The mini churros are the perfect treat for someone like me who isn't huge on sweets. And these are not your typical churros from the fairy or even disneyland. These churros are so fluffy and fresh and come with any side dipping sauce of your choosing! If I have the ability to shop anywhere, sign me up! lol I loved that they had children's books that highlighted Important Mexican Figures, Coloring books, Pillows, Purses, Candles, Pins, and everything had an awesome Mexican Culture twist. I purchased the Concha Keychain which everything I take it out people are asking me where I got it! And this adorable pin with those bomb pin wheel chips you can buy from the Elote man lol (That would be the Corn Man for the gringos) You know with the lemon and the chili?! My husband also ordered a small coffee which our fabulous server mentioned to him that she can make it ultra delicious by adding in some steamed Horchata! Not steamed milk, but steamed Horchata! Im loyal to my Starbucks but man! I took a sip of my husbands and it was BOMB!!!!
All in all our experience at HRL was an A+! The service was impeccable, the food was out of this world, and the overall experience was the perfect way to start our Sunday morning. My only advice for future diners would be to get there early because people tend to line up fast! Ive seen photos on yelp of lines all the way out the door! Growing up without my biological mom around I never really learned to cook. My dad worked full time so I didn't really know there were other food groups besides Round Table Pizza for awhile!
Eventually he caught up and became an excellent cook for me and my brother, but not much of a teacher. Thankfully enough I've been blessed to have some amazing moms in my life that may have not given birth to me, but basically taught me everything I know about being a woman/wife. I remember when me and my husband 1st got married, not gonna lie it was intimidating unwrapping all that kitchen ware and not knowing what the hell any of it did! lol But one thing I learned that you can never go wrong with, TACOS! One thing i love about tacos- you can totally fake the funk all the way through! You can literally buy everything you need pre made and it just becomes a matter or warming up, assembling, and plating! For example: One of my all time favorite taco recipes includes a package of Pollo Asada from any grocery store, Mexican style cheese, a can of refried beans, lettuce, tomatoes, salsa, limes and VOILA! You are making tacos! *Tip! You want to make it look like you did more work than you actually did? Plating! Plating is huge! Grab those serving dishes you registered for but didn't know why, and nicely plate your meal. Cut up some lime wedges and look! Mira! How fancy! *Tip! Don't be afraid to try different topping or garnishes! Your husband likes black olives? Throw some on top! Cooking is all about trial and error! Don't be intimidated! Cilantro, Radishes, Bell Peppers! Try them all! See how easy that was?? And guess what! The best part is, whoever "cooks" doesn't have to do the dishes :) Tell em I said so! xox |
